Description
After The Portrait of Ugolino Martelli by Agnolo di Cosimo, known as Bronzino. bef 1537
I studied the old Italian Masters and made a habit of 'learning by copying' - but instead of oil or tempera, I used a graphit pencil. It might sound absurd to fake the brush lines with a sharp pencil. If you know and see the original painting you may judge what I did much better.
In this particular case, I did not go for the flat looking face, but changed freely the 'look' and used a more modern illustration like form. I recommend to study the portraits Ingres made. They are fabulous and great material to learn from.
